Specimen Requirements

Sample must be collected in a chilled lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Invert to mix with preservatives. Centrifuge and transfer the plasma to a labeled plastic transport tube. Refrigerate or freeze plasma immediately. 

Patient Preparation

  1. Patient must be in a fasting state. Avoid coffee, alcohol, tea, tobacco and strenuous exercise prior to collection. 
  2. Patient must be in a fully recumbent position (lying down) for at least 30 minutes before and during the specimen collection.
