Specimen Requirements

1. Unformed stool specimen in a clean container. Label with patient full name and date of birth, and send to the laboratory.
2. Store specimen at 2 to 8 C for up to 5 days. Alternatively, specimen can be kept at room temp (20-30 C) for up to 24 hours.
3. Testing will be restricted to one stool specimen within 7 days.

 

Unacceptable:
1. We will reject specimen that are not liquid or soft (take the shape of the container at room temp); i.e. the test will not be performed on hard or formed stool specimens.
2. Stool collected in vials with preservatives.

Specimen Transport Temperature

Ambient up to 24 hours.
Refrigerated up to 5 days.

Schedule of Testing:

Daily from 0800 to 1800. Turn around time up to 4 hours.
