Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Plasma. Container/Tube: Green top (lithium heparin). Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL. Collection Instructions: 1. Draw a fasting cortisol at 8 a.m. 2. Have patient take a 1 mg tablet of dexamethasone at 11 p.m. 3. Draw post specimen at 8 a.m. the following morning. 4. Label specimen appropriately (plasma). Additional Information: Include time of draw. If multiple specimens are drawn, time must be written on each specimen.
