Methodology

Rosette

This test is intended for use in the detection of Rh positive red cells in an Rh-negative mother after delivery.
Note: 1. This test is not performed on Rh-positive patients.

2. Mother must be Rh negative and newborn must be Rh positive.
3. Test must be drawn prior to issuance of Rh immune globulin (RhIG).

Specimen Requirements

Specimen should be drawn from mother as soon as possible after delivery of all products of conception, but not sooner than 1 hour after delivery.

 

Specimen Type: Blood

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Collection Instructions: Invert several times to mix blood.

Specimen Transport Temperature

Ambient-If a delay in testing occurs, specimen should be stored at 1° to 8° C.

Negative

Positives will be sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories for #88841 Fetomaternal Bleed, Flow Cytometry, Blood at an additional charge to determine actual amount of fetal bleed and determination of the number of RhIG shots the mother needs to protect her from Rh immunization.
