Three specimens of plasma and serum are required.
Consult physician for specific orders. Patient should be instructed to eat and drink nothing except water for 10 to 14 hours prior to test. Patient should be instructed to refrain from smoking and drinking coffee just before and during test.
Specimen Type: Plasma for Fasting Glucose
Container/Tube: Grey top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Spin down within 30 minutes of draw.
2. Label specimen appropriately (corresponding draw times and intervals).
Specimen Type: Plasma for Glucose (Post Glucola)
Container/Tube: Grey top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Draw blood specimen for a fasting glucose.
2. Give patient 75 g of Glucola.
3. Draw a 2-hour specimen post dose.
4. Spin down within 30 minutes of draw.
5. Label specimen appropriately (corresponding draw times and intervals).

Specimen Volume: 1 mL
