Specimen Requirements

RED CAP Dual Swab. Room or refrigerator temperature.
Use BBL or Copan CultureSwab with liquid Stuart’s medium (Red Cap double swab – LQ Stuart). This is the only acceptable collection device for this test. Simultaneously swab BOTH nares with BOTH swabs. Following collection, sample is stable for 24
hours at room temperature and 5 days at 2 -8 degress C.
Unacceptable:
Any collection other than the red-cap swab is unacceptable. Sites other than nasal are unaccecptable. If other cillectiors are submitted, or if samples other than nasal are submitted, a standard
culture for MRSA will be performed.
