Test Code PTHIN Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), Intact, Plasma
Methodology
Electrochemiluminescence
Performing Laboratory
Sky Lakes Medical Center-Chemistry
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 0.8 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.4 mL
Specimen Transport Temperature
Refrigerate; 24 hours/Frozen OK/Ambient NO
Reference Values
PTH, INTACT
<2 years:not established
2 years: 12-88 pg/mL
Conversion factor
PTH: pg/mL x 0.1061=pmol/L (molecular
weight=9,424)
The reference range has been generated from healthy, U.S.
northern latitude donors. The upper limit of the reference range
is
likely to be lower in geographical regions with greater
sunlight
exposure. In the presence of normal renal function and
hypercalcemia, an intact PTH level of 50
pg/mL (5.3 pmol/L) is
highly suggestive of primary hyperparathyroidism.
