Test Code PTHIO Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), Intraoperative, Plasma
Methodology
Electrochemiluminescence
Performing Laboratory
Sky Lakes Medical Center-Chemistry
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Plasma. Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA). Specimen Volume: 0.8 mL.Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.4 mL. Collection instructions: Draw the Pre-Op specimen in day surgery before the procedure. Surgery will collect the post-excision specimens and bring them to the lab for processing. The specimens need to be labeled with the time and number for the post-excision. (first 10 min post, second 10 min post, etc).
Specimen Transport Temperature
Refrigerate ;24 hours/Frozen OK/Ambient NO
Reference Values
PTH, INTRA-OP Conversion factor PTH: pg/mL x 0.1061=pmol/L (molecular weight=9,424). The reference range has been generated from healthy, U.S. northern latitude donors. The upper limit of the reference range is likely to be lower in geographical regions with greater sunlight exposure. In the presence of normal renal function and hypercalcemia, an intact PTH level of 50 pg/mL (5.3 pmol/L) is highly suggestive of primary hyperparathyroidism.
