Specimen Requirements

One preparation should be taken daily for 4 to 6 consecutive days, with negative results, before a patient can be considered free from infection.Submit only 1 of the following specimens:Container/Tube: Pinworm prep (paddle) containerSpecimen Volume: Entire collectionCollection Instructions:1. Using gloves, collect specimen first thing in morning before patient has bathed or used toilet.2. Press sticky side of paddle against skin across anal opening with even, thorough pressure.3.Label paddle with patient’s name (first and last) andmedical record number or date of birth.Container/Tube:Tape (clear, not frosted, cellophane, approximately 1 inch or 10 cm long) and slide prepSpecimen Volume: Entire collectionCollection Instructions:1. Using gloves, collect specimen first thing in morning before patient has bathed or used toilet.2. Using a piece of clear tape, hold tape between thumb and forefingers with sticky side facing outward.>3. Press sticky side of tape against skin across anal opening with even, thorough pressure.>4. Gently place sticky side of tape down against surface of a clear glass slide.5. Submit tape and slide to laboratory in plastic bag.6.Label slide with patient’s name (first and last) andmedical record number or date of birth.
