Methodology
ABO/Rh and Fetalscreen. Fetalscreen is done by Rosette test and is used to detect Rh positive baby red cells in an Rh-negative mother’s specimen after delivery. This test is not performed on Rh-positive patients. Mother must be Rh negative and newborn must be Rh positive. Perform newborn testing first. Test determines quantity of Rh Immune Globulin needed.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen should be drawn from mother as soon as possible after delivery of all products of conception, but not sooner than 1 hour after delivery. Pink top EDTA and Lavender top EDTA
Specimen Transport Temperature
Ambient-If a delay in testing occurs, specimen should be stored at 1 to 8° C.
Reference Values
Fetalscreen Negative. Positive Fetalscreens will be sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories for Fetomaternal Bleed, Flow Cytometry, to determine actual amount of fetal bleed and number of RhIG shots the mother needs to protect against Rh immunization.
