Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Urine, 24 hour. Container/Tube: Plastic urine container.

Specimen Volume: Entire collection

 

Collection Instructions: Specimens should be stored at 2-8° Celsius (refrigerated or on ice) or have a preservative added within 4 hours of completion of 24-hour collection. Acceptable preservatives: 25 mL of 50% Acetic Acid, 10 g of Boric Acid, or 20-30 mL of 6 mol/L HCl to prevent calcium salt precipitation.

 

Additional Information:

1. Starting and ending times of collection are required.

2. Follow instructions in Urine Collection Special Instructions.

Specimen Transport Temperature

Refrigerate specimens or send on ice.

Ambient specimens are not acceptable
